The relationship between communication skills and social media addiction among university students

Abstract

Objective: In this study the relationship communication skills and social media addiction among university students. It was examined whether communication skills and social media dependence differ according to gender. The most commonly used social media account was examined. Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 137 students at a private university in Northern Cyprus. Communication Skills Assessment Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale and Sociodemographic Information Form developed by the researchers were used. Results: A weak and inverse direction relationship was found between communication skills and social media addiction. Communication skills and social media addiction did not differ according to gender. The most commonly used social media account is Instagram. Discussion: The results were discussed in the literature. It has been suggested training of prevention for young people about increase communication skills and decrease social media addictions. [Anadolu Psikiyatri Derg 2019; 20(0.200): 10-13]
